This Is My Quest....!

I have come to appreciate that song "The Impossible Dream" with a new level of heightened perspective. My dream is to be a respected Filipina-American Writer along the caliber of Jhumpa Lahiri or Amy Tan. That is my quest. But life is ever challenging and I am tired of making excuses. It can only happen one word at a time, one page at a time, one chapter then another until it becomes one book.
In spite the fact that I am a wife, and a mom of two boys, with a full-time job, I know I can only achieve my goal if I stick to a discipline that is not so unreasonable. Write for only 20 minutes a day, if I can't commit to treating writing as if it's a full-time job. Even 15 minutes is better than nothing. How about 5? How about simply starting with Julia Cameron's 3-minute daily excercise of scribbling anything that comes freely to mind. At least, I will be writing. It's better than nothing.
Slowly, in increments, I may finally be able to call myself a respectable writer and not merely a hobbyist. It starts here. I will blog away just so I can keep myself in the game. It's a healthy form of writing exercise. The mind searches for words and analyzes ways to put them together in a cohesive and effective fashion. The fingers thrill at touching the keyboards as Mozart may have done on the keys of a piano.
One thing though, I must apologize to my fellow Filipino-American writers if I refrain from reading your work for the time-being. I want to find my own voice and writing style. I am still lost at the moment. I hope to find it some day soon. I can feel that something within me is taking shape. It just needs the chance to become.
